Operation Icarus Down

In oktober 2005 voerden kunstenaars in samenwerking met  een eenheid van de Luchtmobiele Brigade een ‘luchtlanding’ uit vanaf het dak van het World Trade Center in Rotterdam. Na de afdaling volgde een patrouille door het winkelgebied richting Witte de Withstraat waar het kunstcentrum TENT door de militairen werd bestormd, binnengevallen en veiliggesteld. Daarna hield ik een beschouwing over onverschilligheid in de maatschappij naar aanleiding van het schilderij ‘De val van Icarus’ van Pieter Bruegel.

October 2005 artists performed an ‘air landing’ from the roof of the World Trade Centre in Rotterdam in cooperation with the Air Manoeuvre Brigade. After the descent a foot patrol followed through the shopping area towards Witte de Withstraat where the art centre TENT was stormed, invaded and secured by the military. After this I gave a speech, addressing indifference in society based on the Pieter Bruegel painting The Fall of Icarus.
